Brazil Beats Paraguay, Gains Solo Leadership in Group

In the battle of the two teams tied for first place in their group, South American favorites Brazil edged out Paraguay to take the solo lead. Paraguay was actually the one to draw first blood with Salvador Cabanas scoring in the 25th minute to make the score 1-0. But this lead would not last very long as Robinho’s kick found the back of the net in the 40th minute to tie the game at one goal apiece. A few minutes after halftime, Nilmar scored the go-ahead goal to make the score 2-1 which they were able to preserve at the end of the game. With the win, the Brazilians inch even closer to qualifying for the big dance of football next year, the World Cup 2010 South Africa.
