Lakers Win Game 5, Capture NBA Finals 2009!

The crowd at Amway Arena felt the excruciating pain of a Game 5 loss several minutes before the dreaded final buzzer, on the other hand Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers could not be any happier to hear the wonderful sound as it culminates an amazing season with a championship.

The Los Angeles Lakers beat the ever resilient Orlando Magic in Game 5, 99-86 to close out a season that has been everything but easy. The Magic came out swinging right out of the locker rooms with them taking on an early 9 point lead in the first quarter befor Kobe Bryant and the Lakers made several runs to cut it down to 2 at the end of the first. Then, it was all Lakers for the second quarter as the pesky Los Angeles defense lead by Trevor Ariza sparked a 16-0 Laker run, and closing out the half with a 56-46 lead. Then, it was Kobe Bryant controlling the game the rest of the way, holding off every Magic run en route to an impressive 30 points, 6 rebound, 5 assist game. The Magic were lead by Rashard Lewis who ended up with 18 points and 10 rebounds but most of his points came late in the fourth when all has already been cast in stone. Dwight Howard had a quiet night scoring only 11 points and 10 rebounds as he was plagued with foul trouble all game long. The Lakers bench was also a key factor as Lamar Odom hit perfect from downtown to chip in 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Kobe has now proven to all the critics that he can win an NBA title without Shaquille O'Neal, referring to the fact that he has not won a title since the duo's divorce with Shaq being traded to the Heat. Now, all those who doubted have been silenced with Bryant winning the NBA's Bill Russell Finals MVP Trophy as the Lakers superstar has averaged more than 32 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists for the finals in a superb all around performance. Phil Jackson also reached a milestone as he passed Boston's great coach Red Aurbach by claiming his 10th title as a coach, being the winningest coach in the NBA.

Now, the celebrations will begin as the Los Angeles Lakers will be bringing home the Larry O'Brien Trophy to the city of Los Angeles. Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers, your 2009 NBA Champions!

NBA Finals 2009 Game 5: Magic Looking to Bounce Back, Lakers Trying To Win It All!

After the exciting Game 4 win in Orlando, the Los Angeles Lakers are now one win away from an NBA Title. Will there be someone standing in their way is the big question. And undoubtedly, something (or someone) big will be there right between Kobe and the NBA Finals Bill Russell trophy, that big guy is Dwight Howard and the rest of the Orlando Magic.

After a very dissapointing 99-91 loss in Game 4, the Orlando Magic can make one last stand at home to try and stop or at least delay a Lakers celebration. Rashard Lewis, a virtual no-show in Game 4 with only 6 points to show for 46 minutes of action, needs to step up and join forces with Hedo Turkoglu and Dwight Howard to try and stop Kobe and the whole Lakers gang who can now smell the scent of victory.

On the other hand, the Lakers despite being on the verge of a championship need not be satisfied and go for the kill. Remember Dallas against Miami in '06? And that was with a 3-0 advantage. I'm not saying that the Lakers are comparable to the '06 Mavericks team, but if any team can pull off the same thing that the Heat did back then, it's the Magic. With Dwight Howard as a constant mismatch maker, Kobe, Pau and the rest of the Lakers need to go in for the kill while the Magic are still reeling from an emotional loss.

Game 5 proves to be an exciting game in this year's series. Will a new champion be crowned or will we still get to see the bright lights of LA for Game 6? These questions will be answered tonight. Game 5 will be later at 8 PM Eastern Time.

With the series becoming closer with the Game 3 Magic win, Game 4 is one game that will make a big difference in the series. Will the Lakers have a 3-1 series advantage and get a chance to close out the series in Game 6 or will Orlando tie the series at 2-2 with them still hosting the Lakers for Game 6 and a chance to go ahead. Will he still be able to maintain this level of play or will he return to his old ways in Game 1 and 2? Will Kobe Bryant come up big after shooting poorly in the 2nd half of their Game 3 loss? NBA Finals 2009: Magic Win Game 3 at Home, Cut Lead 2-1!

It was a very happy homecoming for the Orlando Magic last night as they beat the Los Angeles Lakers 108-104 at home to keep the series tight at 2-1. The Magic had a terrible road start in the series, losing to the Lakers in the first two games. Luckily, they found their stride once more on their home floor to avoid a 0-3 hole. Leading a balanced attack for the Magic was their big three in Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu, and Dwight Howard who scored 21, 21, and 18 respectively. The big factor was the terrific shooting of the Magic, who broke the record for shooting percentage in the finals with a hot 62% from the field. Also a welcome surpirse was the emergence of Rafer Alston who after being a non-factor in the first two games, erupted for 20 points. The Lakers on the other hand were lead by Kobe Bryant's 31 points and Pau Gasol's 23. With the win, the Magic gain the chance of tying the series in their next game, which is on Tuesday. Game 4 will still be held at Amway Arena and will start at 9 PM Eastern.
